A Facebook only news organization is pretty crazy. I imagine they would be able to have a strong following. The biggest concern i would have would be credibility on the stories. I know it was mentioned that the journalists would still have to fact check, but i would still question some stories im sure. This also just makes me think how crazy big Facebook has become in the world. First it was the telegraph connected the world, then the telephone, now Facebook is the #1 medium connecting the entire world like never before.
Its very interesting to me that you called it "social journalism" because that is exactly what it is. There's no need to be in the "right place at the right time" anymore. Journalists can sit at their computer or use their smartphones to get information on breaking news instead of being everywhere at once. And yes, they do still have to check their facts but 9 times out of 10, they're going to have the right facts the first time. I cant imagine what the world of social media will be five years from now given the fact that Facebook and Twitter have taken over the internet so quickly.
First off I have to say that I love Mashable. They have some great tories and are always putting out great content on social media and its revolution. Being a marketer I go there a lot to see what the new trend are and what is always happening in the world of social media. In terms of this article, social media is literally social, it is a community and people are becoming the news and news outlets. Most of this article talks about community and the ability one has to push their community or their news into the limelight. Just look at the recent activities with the death of Osama bin Laden. I first learned from Twitter and Twitter actually had a record amount of posts and activity because of it. The first reports of his death actually came before his death by someone on the ground in Pakistan saying there was helicopter noise and great commotion going on and right after people were taking to Twitter to praise the U.S. It is a powerful tool and the people on the ground are now becoming the news outlets, at least they have the ability to be there and see things that we would not normally because cameras and news teams are not always around a catastrophe.
